A two-volume compilation of political and social satire by New England author James Russell Lowell. Navy cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine. Boards moderately worn, top 1/2 inch of backstrip missing on volume two. Lowell (18919-191) was one of the authors in the Fireside Poets coterie, which included Longfellow, Whittier and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. This collection of satirical pieces is written in inscrutable 19th century Yankee dialect (and sometimes Latin! ) about various bills before the "Sennit", English-American foreign relations, and other topics of the day. ; Riverside Aldine; 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall
